The Keeper of What Cannot Be Told

When ten-year-old Sophie meets 200-year-old Jada—the mostly-invisible historian living beneath the local library—she learns that the world is much more complicated than she ever imagined. (She also learns how to write in cursive, which her grandparents find very impressive.) With a new friend and a big secret, Sophie finally feels like she’s found a place to belong.

Until Jada’s sword-wielding sister shows up, that is. Now, Sophie must confront her biggest fears—and her own anger—or watch history repeat itself.

Published by Living Tome Publishing and set to release this summer.

How did I get a book deal, you ask? Here’s the story…

Image description: A simple comic that says, “I got a book deal” in big letters. Below it, Potsie, our stick-figure protagonist, runs through yelling “YAAAAAAAY!” The comic goes on to add “(With the worst pitch ever),” to which Potsie says, “Wait, what?”

An image of a circular graph reads: “In 2018, I wrote a book. Ever since, the process has looked like this: Send to agents -> Should I give up? -> Get rejected -> I think I should give up -> Edit -> I’m not  giving up! Today’s story starts here.” An arrow points to the part of the graph between “I’m not giving up!!” And “Send to agents.”

The comic continues: “I was editing my novel (again) and searching for an answer I’m certain I had found before.” Potsie is at her computer, searching ”Can I use brand names in a novel?”

“In the first blog that came up, there was a sidebar that said, ‘Join me at Realm Makers Conference and Expo!’”

”I, an intellectual, wondered…what the heck is that?”

I’ll take ‘what is a writer’s conference for Chri

The conference and expo were super fun! I made new friends and adopted a baby dragon. (Beside this is a photo of Vanessa and a friend, both smiling and holding plushies.) I also met voices from my childhood—Katie Leigh and Mike Nawrocki, Connie Kendall from Adventures in Odyssey and Larry the Cucumber. (There are two photos. In one, Vanessa thinks “Be cool be cool be cool be cool”; in the other, “

Oh, and I got to watch them perform with Main Street Music show. (A photo of the show, with “Larry the Cucumber voice,” “angsty teenager voice,” “anxious elf voice,” “angry elf voice,” “advertisement voice,” and “FX noises” written above each performer.)

Me, the whole time: This is so stinkin’ cool.

I also learned a lot from the classes, but pictures of slides are far less interesting.

The morning started with a worship service. Because Christians. Obligatory photo of the screen. Because geeks. (A photo of a big screen has worship song lyrics on it…and a unicorn.)

I was a tiny bit late. Classic me. (Potsie dashes through, then scoots past a random geek. She says, ”‘scuse me,” like a classic midwesterner, and the geek says, “You’re good!”)

It was a really good service. I…got emotio
